[lang_en]Wednesday, September 17th 2008, was an exciting day for both PEEP freshmen and veterans! We took part with enthusiasm in the training delivered by Marian Stas, a dear mentor of PEEP. For those who do not know him, Marian Stas is the president of CODECS Foundation for Leadership. For almost 10 years, Marian has been training generations of high-school and university students, creating (and maintaining) a superior standard of civic and professional development.
The training had three parts and all were apparently playful but they left a lasting echo in us as a team. In the first part, randomly created teams from the participants had to solve a puzzle in a certain time period. The really cool and interesting part was that, at a certain point, the teams realized that they need to cooperate (exchange pieces) in order for each of them to be able to accomplish the task, and that there is actually no competition (but only a simultaneous task accomplishment, right?…) A spontaneous exercise of cooperating and synchronising ourselves as a team.
The second part was strictly related to the PEEP identity. It was the moment when each member, whether experienced or new, shared their point of view over the values, objectives and weaknesses specific to the PEEP team. By doing this we have also drawn a rather philosophical conclusion: as long as everybody has the chance to share his/her point of view, in the end they should accept the decision that was taken based on all the existing opinions. Marian said that this is the “disagree and commit” philosophy. A philosophy that deserves to be remembered. Lastly, the third part was the most “business-oriented” one. Some of us finished the training with the eyes contemplating the horizons. Thinking of the mistakes we did in the past as a team, thinking of the great people that have formed PEEP and with the hope that in the future it will work out even better.

Ziua de miercuri, 17 septembrie , a fost o zi intensă şi pentru bobocii, şi pentru veteranii PEEP! Am participat cu plăcere la trainingul ţinut de Marian Staş, un mentor drag de-al PEEP. Pentru cei care nu-l cunosc, Marian Staş este preşedintele Fundaţiei CODECS pentru Leadership. Timp de aproape 10 ani, Marian a antrenat generaţii întregi de elevi şi studenţi, inaugurând (şi menţinand) un standard superior de pregătire civică şi profesională .
Trainingul a avut trei părţi, toate aparent ludice, dar cu rezonanţă profundă în noi ca echipă. În prima parte echipe formate random din participanţi au avut de rezolvat un joc de puzzle, contra timp. Partea foarte cool şi interesantă a fost că, de la un anumit punct, echipele şi-au dat seama că trebuie să coopereze (să facă schimb de piese) pentru a-şi putea termina fiecare taskul, şi că de fapt nu e vorba de competiţie (ci doar de rezolvare concomitentă de taskuri, nu?…). Un exerciţiu spontan de cooperare şi sincronizare în echipă.
Partea a doua a ţinut strict de identitatea PEEP. Acela a fost momentul în care fiecare membru, fie el vechi sau nou, şi-a împărtăşit punctul de vedere asupra valorilor, obiectivelor şi slăbiciunilor specifice echipei PEEP. De aici am tras şi o concluzie mai filosofică: şi anume că atâta timp cât fiecare are ocazia să-şi spună punctul de vedere, într-un final trebuie să accepte decizia luată pe baza tuturor părerilor. Marian ne spune că aceasta este filosofia “disagree and commit”. O filosofie pe care merită să o ţinem minte.
În sfârşit, partea a treia a fost cea mai “business-oriented”. Recomandăm şi noi mai departe celor interesaţi filmuleţul pe care l-am văzut: este vorba de o conferinţă ţinută de Patrick Lencioni intitulată “Five Reasons Why Teams Fail” – pentru un rezumat vezi filmuleţul mai jos.
Câţiva dintre noi am terminat trainingul cu ochii pierduţi în zare. Gânditori la greşelile pe care le-am făcut ca echipă în trecut, gânditori la oamenii minunaţi care au format PEEP, şi speranţa că în viitor totul va merge şi mai bine.
